Rereading

This week's questions were suggested by Marie.
  1. Do you ever reread your books? I spent a goodly percentage of my life never re-reading books. Well, except for S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders, which I read about a bazillion times when I was in junior high. Actually, I read nothing but this book until a "friend" stole it from me when she was staying over night at our house, and I never replaced the book. Until recently that's the only book I ever reread. The last five years or so have seen me rereading a lot of books.
  2. If so, which ones? If not, why not? I'm currently rereading Stephen R. Donaldson's "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever" series. Haven't read it since it was brand new, when I had to wait for each book to come out. It's rather nice having them all and not having to wait a year between episodes. In the last few years or so I've also reread C. S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia, Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy, all the J. D. Rowling's Harry Potter books that have been written so far, Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, as well as almost everything I have by David Eddings (the Belgariad, the Maloreon, and the Elenium).
  3. Do you read the books the whole way through or pick through for favorite scenes? I read them all the way through, and then sometimes go back and reread favorite sections.
  4. What qualifies a book for the reread pile? Evidently, it needs to be fantasy, and most of the authors have to use initials instead of their first names. No, really, it just has to be a captivating story that captures my imagination.
P. S. Nicki, I sniff books, too. Actually, it's more like inhaling them, especially if they're new, and have a nice leather binding.

  1. I love the Thomas Covenant books! I first read them when they were new too. I've reread them twice I think but not for ages :)

  2. I'll be posting my answers up tomorrow but I think the Thomas Covenant books are the ones I have re-read most (except for the Boxcar Children as a child.) I think I have completely read the series through 3 times. It could even be 4. I couldn't wait to put it up with my answers when I read yours right now.

It is also cool that you have even read them and the previous commenter, too. I live in a circle where most people haven't even heard of the series much less read and loved it the way I do.

    Yeah!

  3. Hi, ran across your blog and I love the same type of books as you, have you ever tried Terry Goodkind? Love, love LOVE his stuff.
And I gotta say, "Skeins" is a bee-U-tiful project. I haven't seen that one running around the 'net yet. Nice.
