The blues

In addition to my blue-eyed dad, whom I miss very much, and my blue-eyed hubby, who is currently downstairs in his home office, there has always been a lot of blue in my life. Here is some of it. There are more photos to take on another day. These I took on June 1, hoping to get them posted to start off this month's Project Spectrum. Best laid plans, and all that...

Clockwise from the upper center I have the took books that were on Dave's bedside table in early June, Elizabeth Peters' The Last Camel Died at Noon, and Janet Evanovich's Ten Big Ones. They are on the blue floral comforter that Mom bought for me in the Emporium's bargain basement when I was in grade school. Yes, I still have it, and (obviously) still use it. I still have the matching sheets, too, but those don't fit this bed. Drat. I'd use them, if they did.

The next photo has a bunch of blue bowls and things in it. Starting with a collector plate that my German host family mailed to me the Christmas after I lived with them. I think it must have gone around the horn to get here. Took forever. And the package was a shambles. It amazed me no end that the plate arrived undamaged. Next is a blue Bauer bowl that belonged to my grandmother, then a bowl with a picture of a cat that was a gift from a friend one year, a huge blue serving bowl with two small fish dishes in it that I bought at different times in Chinatown in San Francisco, followed by a larger fish bowl that I also got in San Francisco's Chinatown.

Next is a rug that I inherited from my other grandmother. She bought it when she lived in the Philippines before my mother was born. I'm honored to be its current owner.

At the bottom left is a trio of gifts from various people over the years. People seem to give me a lot of blue things. The bird was a gift from my cousin. He bought it for me before he left Germany, where he'd lived while in the service. The depression glass rose bowl was from a man I dated before I met Dave, and the paperweight was a gift from my aunt and uncle. They bought it in Italy.

The center picture with all the dishes is a selection of my Portmeirion Botanic Garden featuring blue flowers, as well as a blue mug Dave and I bought at the airport on Catalina, a small fish dish that I use as a tea ball rest, and a favorite mug that is one of a set of four we got as a wedding present from a dear friend.

At the nine o'clock position, is yes, a collection of more blue dishware. The Japanese mug was a gift from a friend.

And last, but not least, Garfield, on a blue pillow that hangs on the powder room door upstairs. It's silly, I know, but when someone wants to know where the bathroom is, we get to say it's the one with the crescent-moon on the door.

  1. What a wonderful collection of blue! I love that color too.

During the nineties we had our whole house basically decorated with lots of blue, but now we've moved away from it. My shelf full of blue dishes fell, and all of them broke. Even so, blue does make me feel good!
